Missionary Trip to the Philippines

I just returned to the USA from the Philippines. Traveling with Bro. Darrell Bolton, we were able to preach the gospel in 18 public schools, 14 churches, and a Leper Sanitarium. We were privileged to preach to more than 16,000 people and saw many trust Christ. We traveled by boat and plane to three islands and spent time with some wonderful men of God and their families. Below are some photos of this mission trip.

The last day our team went to four schools to share the gospel.

This school had 1800 students and we preached in 29 class rooms I preached here at the Trinity Baptist Church in Bacolod.

I led this man who is a potter to Christ.

He gave me some of his pottery to bring home to Jeannie.

After the Jeepney drove as far as possible we parked it and

our team walked about a mile up a mountain trail to a school

The trail was slippery and rough but very scenic

We crossed 2 bridges, this one was made of bamboo

In a beautiful mountain location we found this school building

The students had not seen a white man and spoke little English

so I preached with an interpreter.

33 orphans in Makoko. When God touches the hearts

Preaching to students at All Nations Theological Seminary

in Rangon, Myanmar (Burma) with Dr. Lam InterpretingWe were unable to preach in the city streets so the students

invited people to the seminary. Last year in the same location

more than 70 were saved in that meeting and a Baptist church

is now in the area where we were forbidden to preach.

Darrell and I with Dr. Lam and his wife.

He is known all over Burma as

"Mr. Salvation" because he tries to win

liberal unsaved preachers to Christ.

(Dr. Lam invited Buddhist leaders to come to his church for a special service and more than 140 trusted Christ in the invitation.)
This is the Mandalay Baptist Church where 30 people received Christ On the way to the Mandalay Airport I led this taxi driver to Christ

using our soul winning booklet With Pastor Thuang Lian in a Burmese Village In another village near Rangon these church members

invited neighbors to come to the church door for a meeting. Bro. Bolton shared the gospel in front of

Pastor Kap's Bible Baptist Village Church.

but the generator was no good so I held my
laptop computer and the crowd gathered close.

in the Miami Airport as we waited for our plane to Haiti!

Each evening gospel films were shown in 3 areas of the city

More than 600 attended this gospel film.

After Jeannie shared the Gospel here

22 people prayed trusting Christ in the invitation.

2,000 Gospel Airplanes were used to excite Children

and bring a crowd to hear the gospel.

We met this Filipino couple, Luna and Louis, on the street

as they waited for a taxi, We led them to Christ and found out

they had attended a Bible Class taught by Pastor Funtetcha

but had never trusted Christ.

Kylic was the special helper for Jeannie, carrying her

materials and holding her hand as she walked the difficult

cobble streets. He wanted her to adopt him or at least

be his grandmother. He spoke excellent English!!

With 18 year veteran missionary, Bro. Funtetcha,

at the bus depot as we left for

Santa Domingo in the Dominican Republic.
Some of our Team from Calvary Baptist Church in

Middleburg, Florida that went to Haiti and The Dominican Republic

with some of our interpreters.

An Amazing Story - Please Read this!

Sunday, March 28, 2009 we were at our home church, Calvary Baptist Middleburg, Florida and a visitor named Dexter came in a wheelchair. His mind was sharp and he understood every word but was unable to speak clearly. He sat on the front row directly in front of our pastor. He would flail his arms and mumble incoherently and loudly. I walked up and sat beside him and put my arm around him so he would calm down.

In the invitation I had walked to the back of the auditorium to be ready to deal with men who raised their hands wanting to be saved. I never noticed as Dexter crawled from the front pew to the altar up to the 3rd step. He was laying on the altar when Pastor Pledger motioned for me to come up to pray with Dexter. After praying with him another man helped me walk him back to the front pew.

When Dexter and I sat down together I showed him the Romans Road verses and he did his best to pray outloud receiving Christ. He immediately began poking the picture in our builetin above the names of those who were baptized last Sunday and then pointing at himself. I wanted to make sure he understood so I had Dr. Chris Pledger come speak with him. Dexter was insistent on being baptized immediately like the Bible teaches. I believe there were 8 or 9 saved and baptized before Dexter. We have never had a Sunday in 20 years without someone trusting Christ and being baptized. The video below is of Dexter being baptized by Bro. Darrell Bolton, one of our deacons. Praise the Lord!!!

. On my first day in Nigeria I was privileged to preach both morning and evening for Pastor Simon Peter Nyam at the Bible Baptist Church in Abuja.

Meeting in this temporary tent - 28 people walked the aisle trusting Christ that day.

LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE

The conference began on Monday with Dr. Mike Wells and the I.W.W.E. team of Dr. Dave Baker, Dr. Ken Shinn and myself at the first annual Pastors' School and Soul Winning Leadership Conference held at the Truth Baptist Church in Abuja.

40 national pastors attended, learning practical instructions for building soul winning churches in their own cities. During the conference I had the opportunity to preach in 2 private schools. There is a nationwide teachers strike and all the public schools were closed. I was privileged to preach twice in the conference to these precious national pastors.

On Thursday evening at the close of the conference 22 young men surrendered to preach the gospel. Missionaries Mark Holmes and Ron Gensaw have begun a Bible College to train these and other young men for the ministry. The pastors went soul winning on the streets with our team and there were 801 people saved in Abuja.

On Friday morning I left with Pastor Waley Orekan and his family on a 10 hour drive to Abeokuta,where we would meet up with Dr. Tim Pledger, my pastor's son.

Dr. Pledger had already preached a few days in village areas and numbers of precious souls had already been saved that week near Abeokuta.

IN PERILS OF ROBBERS !

Robbers tried to hold us up, stopping our vehicle, but we foiled their plan and got away. That is a very common occurance in that area of Africa. About 45 minutes farther down the road 3 armed men pulled us over and blocked the road. When they saw that I was the only white person in the car, one of the men walked around the car and opened my door telling me to get out. I was a little apprehensive for a few minutes as he asked me if I really was a missionary. He then took off his hat, told me his name was Matthew, and asked me to pray for him. We gave those men gospels of John and Romans and went on our way praising the Lord !

We spent Saturday preaching in market places, standing on top of the church van while huge crowds gathered around.

On Sunday morning dressed in Nigerian garb, I preached in an all deaf church. With Grace interpreting. I called her "Amazing" Grace. They have had a high of 250 deaf adults in their services and are building a 1000 seat auditorium. 4 Deaf adults trusted Christ in the invitation.

We left immediately for the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Abeokuta. Dr. Tim Pledger began that church when he was a missionary in Nigeria. The people expected me to be there at 11:00 but I did not get there till 12:15. They were so gracious and patient singing until I arrived. We had a great service with 13 people saved. I baptized 6 people that morning in a baptistry filled with buckets of water that the ladies carried a great distance. The sacrifices of the people amazed me! Sunday evening we showed the Jesus Film from the roof of the church building and then Dr. Pledger preached. Many people from the neighborhood came and trusted Christ in the invitation.

Monday through Wednesday we preached in the saw mill, under a bridge and in the Destitute Camp where hundreds of lepers, blind and cripple people live. I preached from the roof of the church van again with a church member interpreting in Yoruba and another person then interpreting in Housa.

Then Dr. Pledger preached again with an interpreter directly to a large group of blind ladies and many of them received Jesus Christ as their saviour. Over 150 people trusted Christ in the Destitute Camp

PART OF OUR TEAM THAT WENT TO THE FISHING VILLAGE TO PREACH

Our most exciting meetings were in the Mokoko fishing village to the Egun People. 17,000 people live in stilt houses with 4,000 children. Life expectancy is under age 40 and we saw no elderly people in the entire village. Mosquitoes were thick and Malaria and Typhoid are serious problems. There is no electricity and the water is nasty. We preached to the people using large visual aids and showed them the Jesus Film in their dialect.

The chief of the village was one of many that trusted Christ.

In the film, Jesus worked the miracles with the loaves and fishes feeding 5,000 and he told Peter and John to cast their nets on the other side of the boat and the nets were filled with a multitude of fishes. At those two moments the fishermen in the village erupted with excitement and cheers.

When the soldiers drove nails into the hands of Jesus, the people in one great voice groaned a terrible groan. The story of Jesus was new to them and with no electricity, they had not ever seen a film.

It was sad saying good bye to those precious people and to the many friends we made in Nigeria. On Thursday I flew back to Abuja and spent a wonderful day with the Holmes Family and Bro. Gensaw. I flew out of Nigeria Thursday evening at 9:00 p.m. and arrived in Jacksonville, Florida Friday evening at 5:30.

In the village area we went hut to hut sharing Christ

I shared Christ with these men.

The power went out in the entire area of the village

suddenly right in the middle of the film,

so I stood up in the dark and began preaching.In the invitation I invited people,

whom I could not even see, to pray with me and trust Christ.

After they prayed I invited them to come find me and tell me.

75 people stepped out of the darkness into the light

trusting Christ in that invitation.
